Member representing Ethiope East/ Ethiope West Federal Constituency at the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Ben Igbakpa Rollands is billed to present the keynote address at the opening ceremony of Young African Volunteers Network 2020.
The volunteers network tagged “Raising Global Leaders” is slated to begin from November 27th – 29th, 2020 at the Mount Ned Nwoko Resort, Idumuje-Ugboko on the platform of Revive African Initiative.
Hon. Ben Igbakpa Rollands was born on 28th August, 1966. He hails from Ovade-Oghara Kingdom in Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Hon. Ben Igbakpa attended Onogborhe Primary School, Ovade-Oghara from 1974 to 1979 where he obtained his First Leaving Certificate. Between 1979 to 1984, he attended Ogini Grammer School, Ogharefe, where he got his West African School Certificate (WASC).
However, in order to become ICT compliant, he attended the Institute of Management and Computer Education in Lagos between 1988 to 1991 where he obtained a Diploma in Computer Science, as well as a certificate in Computer Programming and Information Technology for Managers and Data Processing.
In pursuance of further education, he proceeded to Delta State University, Abraka, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from 1999 to 2004.
His passion for continuing education saw Hon. Igbakpa return to the prestigious Delta State University, Abraka, where between 2007 to 2009 he added to his certificates, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA).
In order to have a better working background of the private sector operations, Hon. Igbakpa started out as Management Information Officer with Chemiron International Pharmaceutical Ltd between 1987 to 1992.
As a worthy Management Information Officer, he also proceeded to work with Vego Cosmetic Products Ltd. Between 1992 to 1993.
His sojourn in the private sector saw him again as the Assistant Safety Officer in an Oil Exploration Company called CGG Nigeria Limited between 1999 to 2001.
However, in year 2001, he forayed into politics and served as Executive Officer, Special Project Unit Governor’s office, during Chief Ibori’s Administration till 2007.
As a politician, he became an astute Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) card carrying member, a platform from which he was elected as Member representing Ethiope West Constituency, as Deputy Chief Whip from 2007 to 2008.
He was the Deputy Majority Leader in the Delta State House of Assembly from 2008 to 2011.
Later in 2011, he was nominated as the Commissioner for Transport, a Ministry which was very central to Governor Uduaghan’s aspirations to leave a legacy for Deltans after his tenure.
He revolutionised the face of transportation in Delta State. His tenure as Commissioner saw to the introduction of the Urban City Transport scheme, the free school buses and the ban on Okada in major towns in Delta State including Warri and Asaba.
A very likable personality whose accessibility, generosity and humility has endeared him to a vast majority of Deltans across political party lines.
This enormous goodwill paid off in 2019, when he was elected as Hon. Member representing the good people of Ethiope East/ Ethiope West Federal Constituency at the Green Chambers.
Barely one year in the House of Representatives Hon. Ben Igbakpa has sponsored very formidable Bills and Motions which has earned him number four amongst the new lawmakers who have distinguished themselves within a short space of time in the House.
Like a golden fish with no hiding place, Hon. Ben’s sterling representation has reverberated all over Nigeria and beyond the shores. His passion for service is simply infectious.
Hon. Ben Igbakpa is a Christian, happily married to his lovely wife, and blessed with children.
