Accidental Discharge: Security Aide Kills Imo Senatorial Candidate
The Senatorial Candidate of the Action Alliance (AA) in Imo state, Hon. Ndubuisi Emenike was mistakenly shot Sunday at Eziama in Isiala Mbano Council Area of Imo State.
He was immediately rushed to the hospital but there are strong indications that he did not survive the shooting.
Emenike was reported to have gone to felicitate with Hon. Miriam Onuoha, who was returned Sunday as the winner of the re-run election for Okigwe North seat in the House of Representatives, when he met the tragedy.
As against earlier speculation that he was shot by his orderly, our correspondent gathered that the bullet that felled Emenike was accidentally fired by an official of the National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) who was also at the venue but not attached to Emenike’s security detail.
It is not known what became of the NSCDC guard but Emenike, who slumped following the impact of the bullet and was struggling to stay conscious, was immediately bundled into his vehicle and rushed to the state capital where he was taken to the Accident and Emergency unit of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri.
By 6pm Sunday, political leaders from Imo North (Okigwe zone) across party line were all speeding to the FMC to see if there was more they could do to save the life of Emenike who is popularly known for his large hearted philanthropic interventions.
Impeccable sources at the FMC, however, confirmed to our correspondent that the bulky humanitarian did not make it.
