FG Will Not Respond To Trumps Travel Ban On Nigeria – Buhari’s Spokesman
On Tuesday, 21st January 2020, reports emerged from some media sources that the United States under President Trump was in the process of issuing a travel ban on some countries.
In the list included 4 African countries, 2 European countries and 1 Asian country (Tanzania, Sudan, Eritrea, Nigeria, Kyrgyzstan, Belarus and Myanmar)
We’re adding a couple of countries” to the ban, Trump said when asked about his policy shift at a news conference at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. He added, “We have to be safe. Our country has to be safe. You see what’s going on in the world. Our country has to be safe.”
Reacting, the senior special assistant to President Buhari, Garba Shehu informed reporters that the FG was in no hurry to reply to the development.
In his words, He said: “Yes we have read the news that the Trump administration is planning to add a host of African, Asian and Eastern European countries to its travel restrictions list as reported by the U.S. media.
“We are not going to react to speculations. We urge you to wait for us to see what unfolds under the new policy, its scope, its reach, the implications and its consequences before we react.”
It has not been confirmed when exactly this ban will take effect but from the process involved and the statement from the US, it is billed to take effect soonest.
